Sexual Offenses: Rape, Criminal Sexual Penetration, Criminal Sexual Contact

Only five percent of all lawyers handle criminal cases and, even among criminal defense lawyers, only a few feel they are competent and willing to accept sexual offense cases including rape, criminal sexual penetration (CSP), criminal sexual contact (CSC), kidnapping and false imprisonment. These cases are emotionally charged for police officers, prosecutors, judges, families of the victim, even prospective jurors. Often there is little forensic evidence or eyewitness testimony to corroborate what the victim is alleging but, even with the lack of objective evidence, these cases are very difficult to win. The emotional content and the difficulty are that much greater when the alleged victim is a child.
